Tiny Dick Adventures

  • Crestlinger

Good tribute! Now did she actually name the boat ‘Old Cow’ or ‘Krunch’?
Funny both ways as she Would name it the first and Ouch for a ship if the second.

  • Rarazal

Wait, this is the port where we saw Cale last time, right? And Benny will need a crew for her ship, right? Hehe, I think I know where this is going…

    • CeeKay

maybe Cale and Richard will need a quick escape, and they’ll just happen to choose the ‘right’ ship.

    • Asura

I don’t know if she’s quite ready to forgive him.

    • Mr.Normandy

Wasn’t he a king or something?

  • John Blue

“The Old Cow” is a killer name for a ship, I’ll give you that

  • safyrejet

A touching tribute. But also a little odd, considering Krunch didn’t seem to like being on the ship out at sea. Something about not liking to get wet. Ropes were involved, binding to the deck and all that.

    • martijnhoekstra

How does that not make it funnier?

      • safyrejet

I find it odd because the sea was something that made Krunch uncomfortable. I don’t find making Krunch uncomfortable funny I guess.

        That’s what Cale is for.

      • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

        it certainly makes it ironic

  • Chalous

So thats what they did with Krunch’s body? Well the top half anyways. j/k.
Love this strip. Im agreeing with the other posts. You know they are gonna show up. heh.

  • Fluffy

I was always curious about that all ships are female thing. I’ve heard a lot of ideas on why, I just kinda wish there were one solid reason…

    • The Commissar

Best one I heard was as the first sailors (supposedly) were male they rode the ship….so mad a bad pun and called the ships she……

      • RobNiner

The PG one I liked is that a ship is a mother to her crew.

    • David Decoster

Why a ship is called she? Simple.
      1) When heading in to port, she always heads for the buoys;
      2) It takes a lot of paint to keep her looking good;
      3) She needs an experienced man at the helm to keep her out of trouble;
      4) When buying one, it’s not the purchase that kills you, it’s the upkeep;
      5) She performs better when wet.

    • Orolandes O’Rourke

Actually Russians name all Military vessels ‘He’

    • Fluffy

… Aside from Yoshi’s I’ve actually heard all the others… but wow that’s a lot of responses to just a simple comment. At least it didn’t blow up into a fight.

    • decinaty

Okay, here is my reason, I was in the Navy for 6 wks short of 6 years and spent about half of that time on one of two aircraft carriers named after men (Nimitz and Abraham Lincoln) however we always called the ship a “her” and the boys agreed with me on this…
you go 6-9 months out to sea, maybe 10-20 days you are on land, your not allowed to have sex while underway, with the navy being mostly male do you really want to say you have been riding a him the entire time? even I would rather say her.

  • Ian

    The feels!

  • The Commissar

Daaaaaw…….thats so sentimental and cute :D (also hope that wasn’t his corpse :0)

    • Alex Hollins

cmon, what are skinning and leatherworking for if not taxidermy!

  • TruDivination

Sudden surprise run in with Cale and Richard in 3…2…1…

  • martijnhoekstra

    Hurray, RSS!

  • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

  • Scott Henry

    Did Benny’s boobs shrink magically?

    • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

      could be the outfit

    • Kang the Unbalanced

      Counterspell! Quickly!

    • Selvec

Its reverse pregnancy. That’s what happens when you sleep with an elf.

      • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

    • ReaverZ

Yes, they are smaller. Both women are smaller on this page.

  • rcashman87

I may just have to go rename one of my ships on Runescape The Old Cow now….>.>

  • Brian Lego

BTW, it’s made from his corpse. *Hides*

    • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

is that actually been confirmed after all I remember them burning him before. That could easily just be a well detail carving of him

    • @arutopsipuikko

That was umh… Pretty.. Bad.. And lame.. And… Something. =) Good try tho.. We all know Krunch is ashes. At least we “should” know.

  • Dragoncat

It would appear that Richard has competition now.

    • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

  • Phantom Writer Tom

    A necromantic ship! Good call!

  • Shane Groves

That is an awesome way to pay tribute to such an incredible character.

  • Selvec

Also, now I can make jokes like “Benny’s ride on Krunch was hard, wet and rough.”

    • Mr. D

Why. Oh why did I have to read that?

    • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

      No just No

    • Selvec

2 people have no sense of humour.

      • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

or we find your humor tasteless

        • Selvec

Really? Reading the wrong comic by the wrong people I’d think then. baby killing jokes, jokes about genocide and such, nevermind that Least I Could Do is created on that type of humour.

  • mathew

i think this may be one of the most badass ships ive ever seen

  • Trogdor

“I must go, my planet needs me.”

    • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

      already happened

  • Truth

That was bad and you should feel bad.

  • Scott Kent

So…where does she pack the giant staff when in travel mode? (on second thought, I’m not sure I want to know).

    • yamifira

an fictional pocket called “Hammer space”it happens in alot of games/fantasy movies

      • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

        Hammer Space is god

    • Brad Johnson

Remember when she fought her creepy old ex-husband and turned her staff into a mace? I imagine she does something similar when travelling.

      • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

ex-husband!? Man I need to reread this comic.

      • Adamas

I think it was her Fiance, they hadn’t been married.

  • Chris Maciel

I’m not gonna lie… the krunch figurehead creeps me out a bit, i think its the book… or the detailed gloves

    • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

      or the eyes

    • DarkMyste

if that figure heads utters the words “transform and stomp out”, it will be dying of laughter

  • DarkMyste

AWW what nice way for her to remember krunch to rename her boat after him

  • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

  • Tj Phoenix

I want to see a gilligan’s island style story arc now… or would it be more like the love boat? Hmm…

    • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

wasn’t cale stranded on an Island close to that

      • Joel Penner

That was “Cast Away” with Cale playing the role of Tom Hanks playing the castaway.

        • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

and Richard? Tell me he wasn’t wilson

          • Joel Penner

No, Richard creates Wilson and is sad when Wilson has to go. That comic line made me wonder if Richard and Cale were the same person, a la multiple personality disorder (MPD) or dissociative identity disorder (DID).

          • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

no Richard seams to clearly be a separate entities since the have been in completely separate areas and can bee seen by and interact with other characters. Plus there is the scene where Cales, douchebag of a mentor asked Richard to watch over Cale

          • Tj Phoenix

Maybe the sheep was Wilson? Richard definitely had an odd relationship with it…

          • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

yeah it was odd all right

          • Joel Penner

I fully agree that Richard is distinct from Cale, though it was an interesting possibility particularly in that strip and a few others.

    • Joel Penner

I hope it’s Gilligan’s Island. We all know who Gilligan will be.

  • svartalf

Oh, I like that. Fitting tribute to him.

  • John Davies

They are probably going to be reunited with Cale and Richard at some point , so it’s very like benny will make amends with Cale at some point later , because Sohmer has appeared to have built up the Cale x Benny relationship too much for guilt- fueled blame to completely destroy that sub-plot.

Perphaps benny, will have such an epiphany later , ideally through a song like this …..

I like they honored Krunch by calling a ship “The Old Cow” after him, and i believe that the figutre-head is obviously made of wood.

Also naming a ship after a man can’t be that uncommon Captain V’raay had one called “The Father of Bones” if you remember , and that was not unlucky for her and her first crew at all . ;)

    • draconisnoir

Giving a ship a masculine _name_ isn’t all that uncommon – the British Royal Navy has a habit of naming ships after various monarchs, royals, and lords, a lot of whom are male.
However, it’s a generally accepted thing that a ship is female, regardless of name. There are a number of theories as to why, but none of them seem to be all that well accepted.

      • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

it’s because sailors get lonely on the seas

  • Miafillene

Now that figurehead…I like. :) A fitting homage perhaps.

  • Morgan

From the rightmost edge of the barrels to the right of the panel is my new desktop, thats awesome, and Benny’s face hahaha

  • BrotherCavil

What kind of masthead holds a book? I’m all for emphasizing his scholarly side, but… not on a masthead. Plus, there’s too much going on there anyway.

    • Ori Klein

The kind that bashes you with its hammer if you’re an uneducated bore.

      • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

        high five

      • BrotherCavil

That response would be incredibly boorish and uncharacteristic of the subject in question.

        • Ori Klein

Were the old cow not holding a hammer I might have leaned to agree.

  • Renaud Lepage

  • Millennial Dan

Kinda awkward then that a “cow” is actually a female.

    • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

the word cow isn’t being used that way

      • Silly Zealot

        It still sounds quite weird.

  • Yacindra

  • BrotherCavil

    Technically speaking, nobody cares.

    • Shanna Burgess

Technically speaking, you’re acting like a douchenozzle. :D

      • BrotherCavil

You’re resorting to name calling? How old are you?

        • Shanna Burgess

Technically speaking, I did not call you a name. I said you were behaving like something. My age does not factor into any part of this conversation. :D

          • BrotherCavil

No it doesn’t, but your lack of maturity sure does.

And use “technically speaking” again. Because that’s clever on the FIFTH go round. Really it is. :D

          • Shanna Burgess

My lack of maturity doesn’t negate the fact that you’re trolling and loving it. :D
I just like feeding the trolls. It’s a favorite past time of mine.

Oh, come now, you aren’t interested in continuing this captivating trend toward uttering the phrase “technically speaking” over and over again into infinity? But it’s so exhilarating!
            *continues to feed trolls*

          • BrotherCavil

My initial post was a sincere constructive criticism of an otherwise decent strip, but god forbid anybody say anything vaguely negative about your immaculate webcomic, lest all the sycophants come raining down, just as you did. So tell me, who is the troll here? (Here’s a hint: it’s you). Unlike you, (apparently) I have better things to do than “feed the troll” (especially since, from your picture, it looks like you’ve been fed enough) so I won’t be wasting any more time or energy trying to explain in simple words why you’re in the wrong. Have a nice life. And maybe hit a treadmill.

          • Shanna Burgess

WOW want to talk about being immature, there ya go buddy. The hit on my weight was real classy. Whatever dickhead, have a nice life.

        • M. Van Dunkelschreiber

This how exchange has not been very mature.

  • BrotherCavil

She was being pedantic, and you are being obsequious, not to mention unoriginal. Technically speaking. XD

  • MidnightDStroyer

Just watch out for the sperm whales…They can be treacherous.
